#ToddlerStreetStyle: Sporty summer knit dress

We’re still getting used to life with two kids, including trying to make sure R doesn’t feel like Baby Brother is getting all the attention. We had a long hospital stay , and after bouncing around to grandparents’ houses for a while, and with Daddy traveling for work, she has needed some extra TLC.

On a recent weekend with everyone at home and in town, we packed up the newly expanded family and headed to the middle school near our house to walk, run and/or roll (respectively) the track.

R has recently decided that putting on a dress makes the wearer a “princess,” and she frequently wants to wear “princess dresses.” Fortunately, her definition extends to nearly all dresses, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for playtime dresses that can take a beating.

The GapKids Print Tie-Waist Dress is one such selection (and it’s on sale right now for 15-17 bucks!). It’s very soft but sturdy cotton jersey with a drawstring waist.

So basically the sweatpants of dresses.

Sweatpants fit for a princess, that is.

From a distance the fabric looks plain gray, but up close the jersey is actually a soft, pretty variegated pastel/gray knit. It came through the wash beautifully, and a couple of days after these (very sweaty) photos were taken at the track, our nanny put R back in the dress, this time with pink leggings, for a playdate at the park.

Also good for pushing Baby Brother around the track (so glad we invested in the sit-and stand stroller just so she could insist on pushing instead of riding). R’s shoes are Rugged Bear Kid’s Casual Sandals in fuchsia, currently $17.99 at Saks Off 5th.

The GapKids Print Tie-Waist Dress comes in sizes 12-18 months through 5 years and is also available in a multicolored stripe and pink polka dots (although the polka dots were sold out in most of the larger sizes as of this post).
